I hate Vancouver Island. The only reason...the ferry system.
Most days, it runs fine. And most days, there are no problems.
But when there is a problem, it can be really frustrating.
Friday was a prime example of ferry frustrations.
The Spirit of BC was out of service. They were not taking any new reservations. We showed up at the ferry terminal at 1:30pm. We knew the 3:00 and 4:00 sailings were booked. We hoped to get on the 5:00 sailing. But we didn't make it. The 6:00 sailing was cancelled. That left us on the 7:00pm sailing.
So, after arriving the recommended 2 - 2 1/2 hours before our sailing, we ended up waiting 5 1/2 hours before we got ON a ferry. Factor in the time it took to get across, and drive home, I was basically waiting from 1:30 until 9:00 pm!!!! That was an entire day wasted. To top it off, the ferry terminal does not have free wireless internet, so I couldn't even get any work done while I wasted away! Thank goodness the girls were with me...otherwise I would have gone insane on my own.
But this is a great example of why I don't live in Victoria. This is why I live in Vancouver, work from home, and commute to Victoria on occasion.
