Morning wake up

I rolled into the local strip mall, and wandered into the bakery. It was 7:00am, and already 20 degrees outside. It's going to be another hot one today!
"One cinnamon scone, please", I asked the lady behind the counter.
"Are you just coming home from work, or just going to work?" she asks.
"mmmm...Just going to work", I say.
But, wait a minute! Do I look that bad? I know it's hot outside and it's way too early for me to be up, and I'm a little cranky, but do I really look like I just got home after 8 hours of work? Do I look that bad? Ok....hold on....don't jump to conclusions. The woman is just being friendly. She didn't mean anything by it. Smile at her damn it!
I smiled.
She smiled back. "It's going to be a hot one today!", she says. "That will be $1.39, please".
"Yes, it is", I say as I hand her a handful of change.
"Oh, darn. I haven't taken out my cashbox yet today. I'm sorry. I guess this one will have to be on the house! Enjoy!"
"Perfect! Thanks so much!" I say, and smile at her as I walk out the door.
Lucky girl. She may have inadvertantly insulted me with the remark earlier, but quickly made up for it by giving me a free breakfast. Amazing what a bargain will do for your opinion of someone.
