Fishing shows

Do you watch fishing shows? No, not the ones were there are 3 guys in a row boat, puttering around a lake, talking about lures and the one that got away. I'm talking about shows like "Deadliest Catch" or "Swords: Life on the Line". Both are Discovery Channel productions. Deadliest Catch chronicles the crab fishery in the Alaskan north. And Life on the Line, chronicles the Sword Fishery in the North Atlantic. (this was made famous by the movie "Perfect Storm").

I love these shows. They remind me of my heritage. As you know, my grandparents were commercial fishermen, and fished the North West coast of B.C. for most of the time that I was growing up. And while I never went up north fishing with them, and they probably didn't go through the intensity that these shows have, I like watching. These shows just somehow remind me of Grandma and Grandpa.

Here's a picture of my Grandpa with one of the biggest fish I've ever seen. And keep in mind....my Grandpa was a big man of over 6 feet, so this is no small frey he's holding...

Meanwhile, we are getting a new TV station free now. It's Discovery World HD, and it's free now until September 1st. Last night, I ended up watching a new 'fishing' show. I've forgotten the name of it now, but this one is about the fishing off of the English coast. It was really interesting to see the similarities between fishing in the UK vs. fishing in the US. It is so similar!

What a super big fish! Your grandma would call this one a "smiley".
I think Samsons had a boat house and lived near to your grandma and grandpa. I know the name since I can remember.
