A new month

The first day of February! Can you believe it? Time seems to go by so fast!

This year, instead of the Project 52 list, I decided to do something a little different. This year, I decided that I’m done with making lists of things to do. I never get the entire list done, because as I cross things off the list, I inevitably put more on the list to do. Therefore the list never really gets done. And because I can’t go one day without making a list of some sort, I decided instead of making a list of “Things to do”, I decided to make a list of “Things I’ve done”.

Now, this was also predicated by the realization that “change” is not something that I’m comfortable with. Most people aren’t. And I’ve had my fair share of change the last 3 months, (new job, new routine) so I was finding that I am limiting what I do recently just because I don’t want to feel any more uncomfortable than I already am. The idea of the “Done List” was to show myself that I can do something different every week. Something that normally scares me, or that normally I would not do. Or something that I've been putting off trying or putting off doing for whatever reason. A change in the normal routine. Seeing the list every week reminds me that… yeah, that “thing” wasn’t so bad. And Yeah, I can do whatever I want to this week. So, every week I make a list of things I have done. Some things may not seem that “interesting” or "noteworthy", but they were different for me. In January, the list went something like this:

Week 1 - Jan 1 to 7 – I washed my car at a wash bay. I’ve always washed my car at home, or in those drive through car washes. But, this week I tried something different, and took my car (and hubby) to the wash bay. I also setup my remote login to work. It was something I had been putting off, because I don’t really want to get into the habit of working from home in addition to going to the office every day.

Week 2- Jan 8 to 14 – I took a site tour at work. This meant climbing up 5 stories of stairs… the metal stairs, where you can see through the stair tread, all the way to the ground, 5 stories below you… and yes, I’m scared of heights. So, climbing the stairs was difficult. As was climbing up to where the crane operator sits in the concentrates shed. While the tour was fun, and informative, I was scared for about ½ of it. But, I did it.

Week 3 - Jan 15 to 21 – Travel to Louisiana. Talk about being scared! This meant getting on 4 different planes (I’m a white knuckle flyer, and don’t like planes), and driving myself around a city I don’t know in a car I’m not familiar with, staying in a hotel by myself, and eating at restaurants by myself. Uggghhh!

Week 4 - Jan 22 to 28 – This week I decided to go back to Weight Watchers. I decided to go to a different meeting centre, with a different leader, at a different time than what I’m used to. While I’m happy that I’ve decided to go back, the jury is still “out” as to whether the meeting changes were a good idea or not. Only time will tell.

Happy February everyone!
