All good things come to an end...

In March, I arranged to carpool to work one day a week with a co-worker. We only carpooled on Wednesdays because we work different schedules, and Wednesdays was the only day our schedules were similar. Not including vacation weeks, or weeks where I was travelling for work, over the last 34 weeks we managed to carpool 25 times. He picked me up. He drove every time. And he dropped me off. For that convenience, I paid him. Not a huge amount, but enough to make it worth his while, and enough that I still saw a cost savings in my gas bill for the month. But then he got another job. Today was his last day. So we decided to carpool one last time just to make it special.

However, on the way home, there was an overturned cement truck on the highway. It meant that our normal 1 hour commute, was over 2 hours. It wasn’t a great situation, but I’m thankful that he was driving, and I’m thankful that we had each other for company.

And I’m really going to miss him! Although we do plan to keep in touch, I won’t be chatting with him for hours every week anymore.
