double vision

We went shopping yesterday. While driving through the parking lot, 2 men walked in front of the truck. They were about 70 years old, and dressed exactly the same. I mean exactly. Same shirts, same jean-jackets, same jeans, same shoes.
They were twins! 70 year old identical male twins. It was so cool!!!

Now, my Grandmother was a twin. Her and her sister used to dress the same, and walk the same, and talk the same, and look the same. And anyone who grew up as I did with twins in the family, will understand how I felt when I saw these two gentlemen.

Unfortunately, my Grandma lost her sister a few years back. I so wanted to call her and tell her about the twins I saw, and how much it made me think of her and Auntie. I so wanted to share my experience with her...but I was afraid that it would make her sad. So, when I called her this morning, I didn't say anything. I don't know if I will bring it up again in conversation later on.

It makes me sad that the idea of twins (or multiple births) has taken on such a different meaning than it did 40 years ago. To have twins 40 years ago (or more) meant that it was natural. Something that God intended. Now-a-days...it's all manipulated by man. Fertility treatments and in-vitro have made the idea of multiples less unique. It's too bad. I want more people to understand how precious my Grandma and Auntie were...not just to our family, but to everyone. I only hope that those two gentlemen I saw in the Save-On-Foods parking lot have a family that understand how precious and unique they are, and love them as I love my Grandma and her sister.
