I read an article in one of my magazines on the weekend. It said that admitting that you don't have a blackberry is tantamount to admitting that you still write on your cave walls. mmm...seemed a little harsh to me. But, after all, even the President has a Blackberry (not to mention that he almost went into convulsions when the Secret Service told him he might not be able to use it). The article then went on to list the latest and greatest in new technology. The stuff people say they cannot live without.
This got me thinking. I'm pretty tech-savvy, or at least I like to think I am. I own a cell phone (even though it's not really mine, it's the company's), and I have a blog. Last month, I did a one-hour online presentation to 200 people in 3 different countries, and over 5 different time zones. Doesn't that mean I'm tech-savvy? Well, being the list maker that I am, I decided to make a list of the "new" technologies that I am not using. The list, was actually surprising to me...
- I don't own a blackberry. My cell phone is not email capable.
- I have "texted" someone...but that was about 3 months ago...it's not something I do on a regular basis.
- I don't own a GPS. But I do use mapquest.
- I don't belong to Facebook.
- I don't even know what it means to Twitter.
- I don't have call display, call waiting, call blocking, or call forwarding. Sorry..if you call my house and I'm on the phone you will get a busy signal. (oh the horror!...I can feel you all cringing, as I write this!)
- We don't have HDTV.
- I've never seen a TIVO.
- I don't pay for my radio (Sirius-ly).
- I read books the old fashioned way...by opening a book, not an "app".
- I don't have an electronic organizer (did you know you could buy a couple of year's worth of list pads from Michaels for the same price as one electronic organizer! In all different colours and styles and....ok....I'll stop now).
Perhaps I'm not as tech-savvy as I like to think I am.

What's a TIVO?
Some people pay for radio???? Don't they know it's free?
S.
If you're not tech savy, I hate to think of what I am...although I DO have a GPS!!!...even if I got it free with Air Miles!! Horrors of horrors, what does that make Grandma???
You and me both. I think the only thing I have that you don't is caller id. Have to know who is calling, I'm addicted. I think if I owned a GPS I'd wreck due to lack of being able to concentrate on driving. My cell does two things: makes calls and receives them. I could make a list, but you have most of my don't haves on it already.
And as for Blackberry? Huh? A phone with a ball mouse on it. My butt would make more calls than I would.
I LOVE this post! Here's why. I think of myself as very UN tech savvy. But according to your list I am a techno-genius! I have most of the things on that list. I don't have a blackberry, I don't text often, but I do some (I have teens), I don't use an electronic organizer and I don't have a Kindle (but I'm thinking of getting one to use on vacations only). Anyway, I feel positively hip and cool right now. Thanks for that!
