stuff I used to think

Do you do this too? Think back to when you were growing up. And think back to some of the things you thought when you were a kid. Now, you realize just how "wrong" you were. But, back then, it all made sense.

For example: I remember thinking that toilets were electric. So, everytime the power went out, I could not figure out why the toilet would still flush. I thought maybe it stored the electricity in that big tank at the back. Or something like that. Kind of like the Dustbuster. It hung on the wall in it's charger, and it worked when it was plugged in, and if there was a power outage, it still worked!!

See what I mean? The other things I used to think were these...

Bus Depot...It wasn't Bus Depot, but Bus Steeple. And I could not figure out what bus depots had to do with churches. Everytime we went past the Greyhound terminal, I would look for the tall part of the building that would be the steeple. This one took me a long time to figure out.

Doughnut holes. Mom used to buy these for us in bags of 10s or 20s. I don't remember where we got them, but I do remember it was at this one bakery/store. Now, they are more commonly referred to as Timbits (at least in Canada where Tim Hortons is the biggest doughnut franchise around), and you can get all kinds of them. But then, I honestly believed that a doughnut was a round pastry, and that they "cut" out the middle before they sold them. Then, one company decided to sell the middles too (aka the doughnut hole) instead of throwing them away. I wonder if my Dad told me that one? He used to like to tell us things like "you swallowed a watermelon seed, and now a watermelon is going to grow in your stomach!". I didn't really believe that one. But to this day, I can't eat the seeds of a watermelon.
