The reason they are there are to prevent spammers from leaving messages on your blog. Seriously. If you don't think it can happen to you, I have a perfect example. This one lady in Texas started a blog some time ago. I followed her, and her 6 kids (yes! six kids) through ups and downs for the last 2 years or so. Around January she stopped posting. All together. Just stopped. I revisited her blog today, and found out why. She's being swamped with spam comments. On her last post, there are comments like this...Just click on it to make it bigger so you can read it...But, please be warned....

To make matters worse, there are hundreds of comments like that on her blog. I can see that she has tried in vain to delete a lot of them...
But, the spammer just keeps adding more. Most likely, she has ignored her blog recently because of this problem.
So, the next time you are asked to type in verification letters to leave a comment on a blog...just remember...it only takes a second or two, and you are helping that blogger to remain spam free.

Hi, trying this one more time then I'm phoning you. Did you block me or is something wrong with your blog? I left a funny (at least I thought it was) comment & it disappeared. Then I tested this "leave a comment" again & it disappeared. One more try.....who knows, maybe I'm just not waiting long enough & you now have 3 comments from me! Lucky you!

The original comment (now that it's working) as best as I remember:
At the risk of sounding like I have no life...I love those "words". In fact, I collect them then make up meanings for them. For example: fidless - someone without a fiddle, dilin - how you used to make a phone call, bices - smaller biceps, etc, etc. Oh, and look! There's another one on my screen right now! ballore - first thing that comes to mind is "a boring ballet". The great thing about this leave a comment thing not working the first time is that I now have 4 more new "words"!

If you have problems with the comments, try typing up the comment in Word or Notepad first. Then copy and paste it to the comment section. That way, if it fails to post, then you still have your original.
You are too funny! I think you need a blog of your own!
My word for this comment is clumenal....A club used for menial jobs. (mmmm...that wasn't as funny as your words).
