Movie Reviews

Here are a couple of Movie Reviews on movies that we've rented the last couple of weeks...

Up in the Air -- I didn't know what to expect with this one, but I was sorely disappointed. It just dragged on so much that it made it hard to watch. It was full of cliché people, and cliché scenes. And, the scenes where people were getting laid-off just made the whole movie that much more depressing.

Men Who Stare at Goats -- I didn't love this movie, but I liked it. It was original, “kitchy”, unpredictable, weird, funny, and crazy. I guess I like that kind of thing. It did make me laugh, and that's a plus in my books. Watch it with an open mind, and low expectations. I think that helped.

Moon -- A low budget, independent film. Definitely worth seeing. It's reminiscent of the sci-fi movies of the 1970's. And, I couldn't help but notice the similarities to 2010 A Space Odyssey. It was the performance in this movie that got me. Sam Rockwell (a somewhat unknown actor to me until now) had an amazing performance in this movie. Apparently, the writer/director is a fan of Sam Rockwell’s and wrote this movie for him. And it worked. It showcased his talent as an actor brilliantly. The movie didn’t have a lot of special effects, or huge action scenes. But the acting, the music, the simplicity of the set design, all made this a great movie to watch.

Did you hear about the Morgans? No? Good thing! And if you do hear about them, just keep walking. It's not worth the time or effort to pick up this movie. All the good jokes were in the trailers. I love Hugh Grant, and SJP. But, I could have done without this movie. There was no chemistry between the two. It was boring, and predictable. Just overall bad writing I guess.
