Book Review - The Paris Wife

I finished reading “The Paris Wife”, by Paula McLain. It’s the story of Ernest Hemingway’s first wife, his Paris Wife, and was actually a really good book. It was written from the point of view of Hadley (his wife), and as I read it I felt like I was getting the inside story from her directly. It’s a fiction novel, but written with historical facts in mind, so that the story could have actually come from Hadley herself.

It’s the story of how they fell in love, and their life in Paris. I’m usually one for happy endings, and this was a sad story. But it is a tragically beautiful story, and had me engrossed in the characters from the beginning. I have to admit, that I knew little about Hemingway before I read this novel. I had read “The Sun Also Rises”, but nothing else from him. I think I will have to look for other books about him know, as I'm intrigued about his life and his work now.

I give The Paris Wife, 4 stars out of 5. I really enjoyed it.
