Plantation houses

While in Louisiana, I had the opportunity to visit the Houmas House.

It's an old plantation house, set along the banks of the Mississippi, near Gonzales, where I was staying.

The house is furnished with antiques and local art, and they offer tours of the inside of the house. Unfortunately, we did not have time to take a tour, but we were able to peek into the windows to see some of the inside.

In one of the outbuildings in the back, they have a restaurant, which is where we had lunch. I had the catfish, with a crawfish etoufee (sauce). It was really yummy!
We spent a bit of time before lunch, and afterwards wandering the gardens of the plantation. The place was huge, and absolutely beautiful.

The funniest part of the day, is when my co-worker mentioned we were going to the Houmas House for lunch. With her southern accent, I thought she said "Homeless" house. So, the joke for the rest of the day was how nice it would be if you were a homeless person in Louisiana... just look where you get to live! :-)
