I recently read the book "The Little Shadows" by Marina Endicott. I got the book for Christmas from hubby. She's a Canadian author, and the story was about 3 girls and their mother. The story takes place in early 1900's, and is about Mom, who is recently widowed, who takes the kids on the road to perform in vaudeville acts. It's the only way she knows how to make money to support her family. And the story is about how the 3 girls grow up in the business and the people they meet.
The book took place in Canada, and was a great view into a Canadian past that we often don't hear about. But the book was written with very poetic language which I found hard to read. And the poetic language did nothing to enhance the storyline. The author had a good idea. But the story simply wasn't interesting enough. I found it difficult to get through. But I wanted to finish it. So I did. But I wouldn't really recommend it.
I give Little Shadows 1 star out of 5 and only because it is Canadian.
