Book Review

I got a few books for Christmas, and "Doppler" by Erlend Loe was one of them. It's a short book, at only 183 pages. Just the perfect size book to cuddle up on the couch with, and waste away the whole day of Boxing Day. Which is exactly what I did. And yes, I read the whole book.
The story was unique, to say the least. If I had to use one word to describe it, that would be "whimsical". It was written by a Norwegian, and takes place in Norway. It's about a man who gets a bump on the head, and decides to change his life completely and leave civilization behind and move into the forest. And he ends up adopting an orphaned moose calf. It was a really different book; one that really makes you question your perspective on life. I found myself questioning him... are his actions sane and enlightened, or the beliefs of a madman? I found the book to be quite humorous (although the humour was a little on the dark side), and I got the impression that it would make a really good comedic movie.
Doppler is a very different book, but I quite enjoyed it. My only complaint was the ending, but I won't tell you why. You'll have to read it to see if you agree. But that is the reason I gave it...
3 out of 5 stars.
