It was an interesting book. It was over 1,000 pages long (although I read it on my Kobo, so it didn't seem that big when I started it). But, it was one of the few large books that kept my interest all the way through. It was about magic, in the 19th Century in England. In particular, about 2 magicians (Jonathan Strange, and Gilbert Norrell). It was also written in old English, so some of the words were spelled funny, and some of the writing was kind of quirky (think Jane Austen like). But, I quite liked that, and I think that the style of writing actually added to the story and made it that much more enjoyable.
If you loved Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, you will love this book too. In fact, that's how I found it. I did a Google search for "If you loved Night Circus, you will love". It's amazing what Google will do for you nowadays!
After I read it, I found out that this was the writer's first novel, and that it was on the New-York Times bestseller list, and won the 2004 Man Booker Prize and the 2005 Hugo Award for Best Novel. Considering the way I stumbled across it, I was actually surprised that I hadn't heard of it before now. For anyone looking for a fantasy novel, and happens to love "period pieces" (like I do), than I would definitely recommend it.
I give it 4 1/2 stars out of 5.
