How many boarding passes does it take to get home? Apparently, 6 is the lucky number.
I was trying to get home from Houston on Thursday. I didn't actually make it until the wee hours of Friday. Originally I was to fly from Houston to Denver and then from Denver to Vancouver. But there were some high winds in Denver (from the same storms that spawned all those tornados in the US), and I never actually made it to Denver. First my flight was delayed. So, I switched flights and tried to get on a different flight to Denver flying standby. That didn't work. So, I got on another flight to Denver. Then I switched seats. Then, that flight was also delayed. So, after a lot of shuffling around, multiple trips to the United Customer Service desk, and 6 printed boarding passes, I finally booked (and actually got on) a flight direct from Houston to Vancouver. The only issue, was that I had to wait 4 hours until I could board the plane. At this point, I'd already been at the airport for 3 hours. But the only alternative was to overnight in Denver, and fly in Friday during the day. So I decided to wait. At least I would get home, and be able to sleep in my own bed, even if it was 2:00am before I got there.
I finally did get home... and got to sleep in a little before heading to work on Friday morning. But I'm so tired. Even today, I'm still feeling exhausted. The only good thing about all this was that I had all the time in the world to go through the duty free store in Houston, and came home with a nice big bottle of scotch. And even though scotch is not my favourite drink, I actually had one last night. I needed it.
