When I went to Mexico a few years back (ok....maybe it was more than a few years ago), the hotel had outdoor showers by the pool area. They were surrounded by stone walls, and local plants and flowers, and were wonderful! There is something about showering outdoors (yes, with a bathing suit on) that is very zen like and calming for me. Since we've bought the house, I have often thought about putting an outdoor shower in our backyard. But, alas, we live in the Pacific Northwest, where it rains 50% of the time (or more) and outdoor showers just aren't the "practical" thing to do here.
Anyways, in the main bathroom in our house, we have a window in the shower/tub area. It's a large window, placed up high enough that others can't see in while you are in the shower. Having lived in apartments for most of my adult life, this is the first time I've had a window in my shower. And, I have to say...I love it!
The weather has been absolutely beautiful lately. Hot, sunny, and dry. (I don't particularly like the heat....anything over 85 degrees and I'm a basket case...but I have to admit to loving the summer overall). The days are up in the high 80's, low 90's. But it cools down at night, and the mornings are around 70-75. The last few mornings, I've been showering in the main bathroom with the window open. The cool morning air cascades in, and creates a bunch of steam when it meets the hot water of the shower. The effect is very "spa like". And the smell of the morning air is so fresh and clean. It almost feels like I'm outside. An outdoor shower, inside, without all the headaches of bugs, and nosey neighbours. mmmmm! I think I'm on to something here! And to think that some people spend hundreds of dollars installing outdoor showers (or even steam showers)....when all I have to do is open a window!
