The Ides of March

The Ides of March
by James Dean Chase

The Ides of March was, once, a dread;
omens and fear of rising dead.
Calpurnia warned, "Do not go!"
Caesar didn't know friend from foe,
so he did and his blood ran red!

Beware the nightmares, in your head,
wake not with you – walking from bed
to curse this day, as long ago,
the Ides of March!

Praise Spring as it draws near, instead;
on green paths – let your feet be led
through clover and flowers that show
themselves undaunted by past snow.
Sunrise, let Love and Luck be wed
the Ides of March.
