almost 1 year now

It's been almost one year since Grandma was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal lung cancer. And just the fact that it's been almost a year, is amazing. Most people are given a 6 to 8 month survival rate when diagnosed at this late stage. Most people don't see a one year anniversary of their diagnosis, even with traditional treatments. But, Grandma is nothing like normal folks I know!

She is fighting the cancer with holistic treatments. Not your usual response. But, when conventional treatments (radiation, chemotherapy, etc.) were not available to her because of her age, she sought out a Naturopathic Oncologist for treatment. At 85, she completely changed her diet, and started taking herbal medications. We don't really know if it's working or not. But, the fact that she's still here after one year, and still feeling good, (I think) is a testament to the approach she is taking.

Her last appointment with the lung specialist wasn't all rosey. But, he basically said, "Do what you are doing, and come back in 6 months". I have no doubt that she will be around in six months time to do just that. Which is 6 months longer than any of us expected her to be here.

But, then again, you have to know my Grandma. She's stubborn, and pig-headed, and doesn't want to do what she doesn't want to do. And right now, succumbing to lung cancer just isn't in her plans. I have no doubt, that she's going to be around for a long time to come.
