Take the good with the bad

I got out of work a little early on Wednesday while in Houston. So, I decided to take off to my favourite store downtown. Macy's. It's only a few blocks from the hotel, so I walked up there and still had about 1-1/2 hours left to do some shopping.
But, when I walked in, I was bombarded with a large sign...

Closing Out Sale -- Everything in the store 25 to 30% off!!

What? Closing???
The ONLY place to go shopping in downtown Houston, and they are CLOSING?!?
Well, it's true. The store has been there since 1947, and it is closing down. And yes! Everything was on sale! So, I got a bunch of clothes for really good prices. I think I bought 3 or 4 shirts, a couple of sweaters, and a new blouse for work. I talked to a few of the sales people about the store, and how long they have worked there. A few of them were there for 20 years or more. Some are retiring, some are getting transferred to other stores, and some are taking the buy-out package and moving on to other things. I tend to think that the economy is on the upswing, but this was a reminder that this is not the case everywhere. The economy in parts of the States is as bad now as it was a few years ago.
The good is that I got some great clothes cheap! The bad, is that I will miss shopping there on my next trip to Houston!
