a whale of a visit

A grey whale decided to swim into the harbour yesterday near downtown Vancouver. It's a part of the water known as False Creek, and it's a highly unusual event. I don't think there has ever been a whale in False Creek before. So, it was quite something for the hundreds of people downtown who got a glimpse of the creature.
Officials are on site to ensure that no one interferes with the whale, and they are trying to coax it back out to sea. They thought it had left last night, but it reappeared this morning. It's been all over the news here, and I snagged these pictures from the Vancouver Sun website...

Meanwhile, a pod of dolphins was spotted this morning just offshore from where the whale was. Again, that's unusual, as dolphins do live in our waters, but rarely come so close to our city. It does make you wonder just what is happening in our oceans lately.
