Book Review - The King's Speech
I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. Of course, I knew the outline of the story, because of all the hype around the movie. I hadn't seen the movie (yet), so I thought I would read this book first.
I wasn't disappointed in the book, but it was kind of dry and boring. It wasn't a novel or story. More of a recap of the events of the King's life, and his interactions with Logue. It was full of interesting tid-bits of information, and comments about that time in Britian's history. But overall, the book left me wanting more.
I was actually going to give this book 2 stars out of 5, and recommend that you skip the book and go straight to the movie instead. While the movie may not be as historically accurate as the book, you will probably get more 'drama' from the movie. But then... I watched the movie. Having read the book first, I realized that all those dry boring tid-bits of information made the movie that much more interesting because I knew the story behind the why's and what's of the movie. So, on second thought... maybe I'll give the book a rating of 3 stars out of 5 instead, and let you decide.... movie, book, or both.
