I found a new show recently. Quite by accident, really. I was channel surfing one afternoon at lunchtime. I was busy that day, so I ended up taking a later lunch than normal. I usually watch the news during lunch, but this day I found myself surfing instead. When suddenly, appearing in front of me, was none other than Keith Patridge!! aka: David Cassidy. Be still my beating heart! It can’t be! Is it really the same guy I had a crush on all those years ago. Oh, to be 13 again! But, yes, it was him. And looking…well, quite a bit older than I remember…but still looking mighty fine. He was speaking to the camera. Soft light in the background. No interviewer, no audience, no sounds, other than him speaking. Talking about his life, his work. I watched.
The show is called "Unscripted" and is just...well, different. Famous people in a no-thrills type setting, with no audience, no interviewer, nothing but them speaking (quite candidly in most cases) into the camera. Like they are having a conversation....with you. It’s odd not to hear the questions asked out loud, but it’s edited in such a way that it really isn’t necessary. And the no audience, no music, no sound thing makes it seem more intimate. There is actually a bit of soft jazz playing in the background during some scenes, but it only adds to the program. It was like no other show I’d seen. Comparable perhaps only to Inside the Actor’s Studio on Bravo network. But, even there, you have an interviewer and an audience. This show was a little more unconventional. I like it.
The fact that it is the actor speaking means there is no gossip, no rumour, no guesses. It's real. True stories about the actors you know and love. I love the art of acting, and always want to know more about my favourite actors and what they went through to get where they are today. This show caters to that. It is definitely not like the so called "entertainment news shows" that you see so much of now (like Entertainment Tonight, Extra, TMZ, or those other "trash" shows....of which I refuse to watch).
Check it out at http://www.visiontv.ca/ or http://www.unscripted.ca/
It apparently plays on VisionTV on Mon, Wed, and Friday nights, with repeats during the day Mon to Friday. But, you can watch full episodes on the websites. Since I saw Mr. Cassidy, I’ve also caught portions of the shows with Donny Most, Anson Williams, John Tesh, and Mackenzie Phillips. Each one of those actors I grew up watching, so each episode was a complete trip down memory lane!!

I couldn't live without my HGTV or FoodNetwork they are really all I watch. No messy emotional investment.
Hey, thanks for lurking around my blog. I really love bloggy friends.
Michele -- I with you on the HGTV and Food network thing. Add in TLC to the mix, and I'm hooked.
Cheers.
