Vignette Fridays

Ok..I'm going to try something completely new here.
There's a bunch of blog-sites out there there do these linky things. I've followed quite a few of them...the more popular ones in bloggyland seem to be "Thursday Tablescapes" at Between Naps on the Porch, and "Random Tuesdays Thoughts" hosted by the Un-Mom. I have never really felt the need to participate in those before. But, I think I might start now. Well, maybe not the Tablescapes one. That just seems like a lot of work. I love to look, but I would hate to have to come up with a tablescape every week!
I found Color Outside the Lines, which is hosted by an Interior Decorator from New York. He has "Vignette Fridays". That sounds easy to me. I always decorate my fireplace mantel for the 'seasons'. And I love that word, "vignette", don't you?

Anyways, here's my first attempt. Now, this will probably pale in comparison to the others out there. But, I just had to share. Today, it's Fall...
The mantel is decorated with the antique chime clock that we got as a housewarming gift from my parents. It used to belong to my Grandparents, and I love the sound it makes when it chimes.
Over the years, I've collected the pine cones from the neighbourhood, and local nature paths. The ball of yarn was some heavy rope that I found at a garage sale for 50 cents, hot glued to a styrofoam ball (picked up from Michael's). So, yes, I made it myself. I didn't have many fingerprints after making it, as I burned my fingers on the hot glue many times before it was finished. But I love the end result. Something always looks better when you make it yourself.
The picture is of me and hubby, taken at my brother's wedding. It's my favourite picture of us. But, I love the scarecrow too. He's just too cute.
Thanks for visiting. Please visit Color Outside the Lines for more. Now, I'm off to try and get that linky thing to work...

You did a lovely job on your mantel. I love the clock and the ball of yarn you made is very homespun and perfect for a warm and cozy room. Your fireplace is gorgeous. We have a similar one at our lakehouse, with the big field stones.

Love you blog and have signed up as a follower. Happy October 1st!

XO.

You did a great job! What a beautiful clock, I really would love to have one of those. Your rope ball is very nice, and so Fallish.
Hugs, Cindy

I like how you used pinecones inside of the candleholders. Looks pretty.
