The Ring

The story about The Ring...
While in Victoria for Hubby's birthday, we do what I always like to do on his birthday... buy ME expensive jewelry! Seriously, we were poking around at the Empress Hotel, and wandered into the jewelry store. We saw an opal and diamond ring that was ½ price. Hubby had wanted to buy me an opal ring for Christmas last year, because it’s my birthstone, but he couldn’t find one. Well, this store had a number of them, and had a number of really nice ones. We finally settled on one that we both liked, and asked the price. It was expensive (although, not as expensive as I thought it would be), but was on sale for 50% off. We wandered away for a few hours to think about it, but in the end, we ended up going back to buy it.

A mere 3 weeks later, I was back in Victoria for a meeting with my boss. I was wearing, and showing off my beautiful opal ring. But, during the day, the opal FELL OUT OF THE SETTING!! I was so upset!! And totally flabbergasted that this had happened. I did manage to find the opal, but my beautiful ring was in “pieces”. The good part of this story, was 1: I had all the pieces. And 2: I was in Victoria, where we purchased the ring to begin with. I called the store that we purchased it from, and without any hesitation, they asked me to drop it by the store. I was in town, so all it took was a ½ hour drive out of my way to drop it off, and a very apologetic woman promised to have it fixed and Fedex’d to me in 10 to 14 days.

Well, look what appeared on my doorstep yesterday afternoon! YEAH!!

I was very lucky that the ring fell apart at the office where I was able to find all the pieces. And I was even luckier that it happened while I was in Victoria! Otherwise, I would have had to go through the hassle of taking the ring there on my own (ferries are expensive!) or having to Fedex it over. While the whole experience was a little upsetting, it could have been a whole lot worse.
