Tues is for nieces

Today, I spent the day with my 7 year old niece. Her parents were at work, and she didn’t have school or after-school care today. So, I volunteered to look after her for the day. I once read that if you want to lose weight, all you need to do is follow a 7 year old around and do exactly what they do. When they jump, you jump. When they run, you run. And eat what they eat. After today, I can honestly say that would be the best way to lose weight. I am exhausted! I have never heard someone so little talk so much and she doesn’t stop! She’s like a little energizer bunny, and just goes and goes and goes.

I had planned a lot to do during the day to keep her occupied and busy. We started the day by doing a bit of running around… stopped at the bank, stopped to mail a letter, stopped at Starbucks (heck… If I’m following a 7-year-old around all day, I need the caffeine to keep me up to speed. In hind-sight, I should have ordered a double). We even stopped at Chapters/Indigo to check out the new Children’s section. Mind you, that was close to Starbucks, and not really part of the original plan, but who can say no to someone so cute when they ask if they can just go look around for a bit?

Once home, we made lunch. We watched Charlie’s Brown Christmas, while I caught my breath. We wrapped a few Christmas gifts (I’m officially done wrapping now!). And then we dove into a batch of shortbread cookies. (note that niece is standing on a chair... she's really not freakishly tall for her age... )

We ended the day by watching another Christmas video, Elf with Will Farrell, and drawing and playing with puzzles. I can honestly say, that I’m going to sleep good tonight. My feet hurt, and my back aches. But, I have a fresh batch of shortbread cookies made, and 6 new rubber band things that are shaped like musical instruments that I’m supposed to wear around my wrist “in case my friends want to trade with me”!! I think they are called Silly Bands, but I can’t really remember. I'm too tired to think.

On the way home this morning though, we thought the view from the top of the hill looked wonderful, so I snapped this picture of it....
