No Brunch Boxing Day

Boxing Day we usually have my husband's family over for Brunch. This year is obviously different. We don't have a dozen people in the house, and there aren't 1000 presents under the tree. Hubby is downstairs blowing things up on his PS 5, and I'm upstairs blogging, watching TV, reading and just relaxing. 

We called his father (who lives in Arizona) today too. Apparently, the US is doing things a LOT different. They were just getting back from spending the holidays at a cabin with family and friends. "But that's ok", he said, "Because everyone at the cabin has already had Covid". Everyone, except for one person. Arizona had 6,616 new cases yesterday, and 115 deaths. Here -- no one is going out, we are all isolating and staying in for Christmas, and Ontario is going into a full lock down as of 12:01am today. I'm so grateful to be living in Canada, and doubly grateful to be living in BC.

Covid Christmas

Christmas day started like any other... we got up and opened our gifts to each other. I got him the coveted PS 5 game system that no one else seemed to be able to get.

And for me, he got me a number of books, journals, pens, paper, and a bunch of Kate Spade stuff, including a new watch...

By the afternoon, I was feeling a little lonesome. We usually find ourselves making brussel sprouts, and getting ready to go out for dinner. This year was so different, and I honestly stayed in my jammies ALL day watching TV and playing on my iPad.

Christmas Eve

This Christmas Eve we stayed home to stay safe.  We stayed home one year on Christmas Eve due to a snow storm. This year, it was because of Covid restrictions (no family gatherings). It was odd, and different, but it was kind of nice not having to "be" anywhere. I had to work this morning, and we vacuumed and did a bit of laundry and dishes, and made Swedish pancakes and a strata for tomorrow. We exchanged gifts with my parents earlier in the week, so we did a conference call and unwrapped gifts together on the phone. All in all, it was a great Christmas Eve despite the pandemic.

Dr. Bonnie Henry Book

Our Provincial Health Office, Dr. Bonnie Henry, wrote another book. Apparently, during the pandemic, she took a small vacation... in the summer months, she took 6 days off. Six. In the whole of the pandemic since February, I don't think she's taken any more than those 6 days off. So you know what she did? She wrote a book with her sister. Yup. She takes 6 days off in the middle of a pandemic and writes a book!?! What a freakin' over achiever, right? But I love her to death anyways! My new challenge to myself is, "If Dr. Bonnie can write a book in six days, than what can I accomplish?"

Sad Days

The World hit 50 million cases of Covid 19 today.

The US hit 10 million cases of Covid 19 today.

And Jeopardy host, Alex Trebek, lost his battle with pancreatic cancer and passed away today.

It's been a sad day.

Hoarding?

I went shopping today at lunchtime. When I got home and unloaded the car, I looked at my purchases. I had bought toilet paper, Lysol wipes, hand sanitizer (the good Purell kind), light bulbs, and groceries - including flour and sugar. And I thought to myself... am I hoarding? And while I think I might have been stocking up subconsciously, I am worried about the high cases of Covid lately, so maybe that's why I filled my cart with essentials. Oh, I also gassed up the car on the way home too.

I wonder how many times Minister Adrian Dix has almost forgotten to say the Covid-19 update en francais?
