The first day of winter, and it snowed!
At the end of the day, we got about 2 inches of white, really heavy wet snow. Mom and Dad got about 8 inches of the stuff out where they are.

And then things changed...
And then the rain came, and the skies cleared, and everyone (especially me) was happy again...
See that little happy face? Yup, that's me!

Air Quality
We've had an air quality advisory in effect since Sept 8th. Although, it really didn't seem to be all that bad until last weekend. And since then, we've had horrible smokey air! I've stayed inside for the most part. I don't go outside or keep the doors and windows open like I usually do. We have an air purifier running pretty much 24/7, but I'm still feeling like the house is very stuffy!
Things are supposed to get better tomorrow, with some rain moving in later in the day. I can't wait for the weekend, as it's supposed to rain and clear out all this smoke by Saturday!

Late Summer
The deck is done, Budgets are finalizing this week, and the weather is turning very hot this week...
I can't wait until next week when I have time off to enjoy it all. I hope the weather lasts!

More wacky weather
Weather in Vancouver in January was beautiful. Some rain, some sun, and flirting with double digit highs all month.
Then came February, and the snow. Then more snow. Then even more snow. And sub zero temps for weeks on end. It is the 19th of February, and there is even more snow in our forecast, all the way out to Feb 26!!

What?? I only hope all my daffodils that started blooming in January will survive being buried in snow for 4 weeks!

good intentions
I took a day off of work. I booked a vacation day. I filled out the form in our new payroll system, and submitted it for approval. I feel lucky that we get a few extra vacation days this year (because of the transition at work, everyone got an extra 3 days off this year to compensate for the changes made to our benefits). So, I wanted to use my day off to take a long weekend, go shopping, and do a few little things that I usually don't have time for during the week or on the weekends. And then it started snowing.
Long story short, I didn't go anywhere on my day off. I stayed home. The snow just kept coming! I got snowed in. That was yesterday. This is what the yard looks like today...
I'm at home again today. I called in for a snow day. I planned on taking another vacation day, but when I logged into work to set my out of office, I found a few mistakes made in the weekly forecast. So, I set about fixing it. I ended up working most of the day.

Wacky Weather
After unseasonably warm temps in January, the weather has turned colder, and...
OMG is that snow in the forecast?

Wind Storm and power outages
Our power was out all night from the wind storm yesterday. I woke up this morning, had a shower by flashlight, and got dressed in the dark. It was cold, I couldn't wash my hair (because I couldn't use the hairdryer), and I had to wait until I got to Tim Horton's to have a hot cup of tea.
I was stressed out today. I tried to keep myself busy with work stuff (my last day before my 2 week vacation), but it was hard. I kept hoping and praying that the lights would be back on before the end of the day.
And just like that, I got a text from hubby. He got home from work, and the power was back on!
I'm grateful! And happy! Although, I do feel sorry for the 60,000 or more that are still without.

Wind Storm damage
There was a wind storm today. I was at work, in the Boardroom, chairing a meeting for our HR department. It was so windy it was rattling the skylights in the office. I then heard about the White Rock pier that was destroyed in the wind...
...and the rescue of one guy who was stranded on the other side of the pier. He was ok, but had to be rescued by helicopter.
Our power went out too, along with a bunch of other people. In our neighbourhood, they had closed the main road by the school going into our subdivision. A tree had come over on a power pole. I drove home in the darkness -- it was so weird going over the Alex Fraser Bridge in the dark. And seeing all the tree branches and stuff lying around the road, and yards. I'm glad I was at work for the worst of it (the wind apparently wasn't as bad at work). And hoping our power comes back on in a couple of days!

Beautiful Fall Weather
It's been beautiful fall weather lately, with little to no rain, lots of sunshine, and unseasonably warm temps...
I'm officially on vacation on Friday after work, so thank you global warming!

Rain!!
Today it rained. I woke up this morning, and it was raining. And it rained off and on all day. Not a whole lot. But enough to take most of the smoke from the air. And enough to give the garden a good watering. And enough to cool everything off so that we can move back upstairs again. It wasn’t quite enough to quell the 2 months of drought we had this summer, but it’s a start.

Smokey sunshine
Today's weather report: Smokey sunshine.
Too many wildfires burning in the province, and winds bringing all that smoke into the lower mainland, making our skies look apocalyptic and making it hard to breathe.

Too Hot
Yet another heat wave in Vancouver this week -- today we topped out at 35, or 32 in the house, despite the forecast showing slightly lower temps...
It's still over 30 in the house and it's almost 9:00pm! Even Mr. Squirrel decided it was too hot today, and was just hanging out in the neighbour's tree. He didn't even try to move when I got real close to take a picture.
Yup, too hot today!

Heat Wave
There has been a heat wave on in Vancouver now for over a week. It's been like 10 days with temps in the 30's and weeks now without any rain. This was at 3:00 today.
It is so hot that we are sleeping downstairs in the basement bedroom, where it is cooler. And it's so dry my garden has dried up and is not producing much at all this year.

And then it changes...
If you don’t like the weather in Vancouver, then wait a day.
Last week, I complained that it has rained so much. This week, I’m complaining because it’s too hot!
A mini heat wave has descended over the city this week. Wed was hot. Today (Thurs) was even hotter. With all kinds of temperature records broken across the province. But, it cools off at night. A lot. Last night it was 5 degrees. Today, up to 25. That’s a 20 degree difference! We aren’t used to those kind of temperature swings (where does Mother Nature think this is? Texas?)
Things should get back to normal on the weekend though. We are expecting rain again.

Last Blast of Winter
It snowed again. Wednesday night we got a few inches of the white stuff. And then the weather forecasters were predicting a big dump of snow on Friday. I went to work early, hoping that I could get my work done, head home early, and avoid the headaches of driving in the mayhem. But, the snow started about 9:00am. So, when I left work at Noon, the roads were bad. It took me a long time to get home. But I arrived safely, and the snow continued during off and on all night. This morning, I woke up to this...
7 inches of the white fluffy stuff. Although I don't think it will stick around long. It's supposed to get warmer and rain over the next few days.

Cold!
That is a lot of cold and snow in the forecast for the next week! After the rainy and somewhat mild winter we've had up to this point, I didn't think it would get like this. I was even contemplating taking the snow tires off my car a couple of weeks ago. I'm glad I didn't now!
